who is avp for?
AVP is for everyone who wants to handle conflict better. Whether you face conflict in the family, on the street, in your workplace or somewhere else, an AVP workshop can help you to deal with it well. Workshop participants come from all walks of life and many different situations. Most participants enjoy the workshops and learn a lot about themselves.
what is a 'workshop'?
AVP workshops are not like school or college - participants learn from one another in small group exercises, activities, discussions and role-plays of real-life situations. Workshops are friendly and everyone is made welcome.
We run two types of workshop: Level One and Level Two.
Level One: essential skills and attitudes for handling conflict:
- understanding yourself, believing in yourself and respecting others
- trust, working together and building good relationships
- communicating well, including listening and speaking up for yourself
- knowing the things that matter most to you
- handling conflict, solving problems and managing strong feelings like anger
After attending a Level One workshop, participants at Level Two explore conflict, nonviolence and relationships in more depth. Usually the participants cooperate to choose the focus of the work in a Level Two workshop.
Participants may then attend more workshops and some train as volunteer group facilitators (i.e. group leaders).
how are workshops organised?
Our workshops in the community usually begin on Friday evening and finish on Sunday afternoon. There are usually 10-15 participants and three or four group facilitators. The cost is kept low at £80 and if you can't afford this please contact us to discuss your situation.
Light refreshments are provided; participants normally bring their own lunch or buy it locally. You don't need to bring anything else, just a willingness to participate.
how do I book?
To book onto a community workshop, choose a workshop near you on the workshop dates page.
Due to child protection guidelines, community workshops are for those aged 18 or over only but we can arrange special workshops for younger people - please contact us to discuss.
